Joylight 27 – I am not good enough

I am not good enough.

Sounds familiar?

Funny enough, this was the singular thought that led to start my lifestyle studio, SensUal Joy, close to ten years ago. Because I felt I was not good enough.

And that I had so much to prove.

  • To myself,
  • to others,
  • to my family.

That I am good enough.

That I am of value.

That I am worthy.

Worthy of what?

I didn’t realize then exactly what I was trying to prove. I was just driven by that strong feeling every day.

But now I understand. I was trying to prove that I am worthy to be loved.

Think of an occasion where you had an opportunity you had always wanted but you declined the offer.

What about that occasion where you accepted an offer and then you freaked out and backed out of it?

  • Why did you do that?
  • What were you thinking about?
  • What do you think might have happened if you have accepted it?

I think a sense of self worth is everything. Without it, you will be seriously handicapped in life by your own mental limitations. My life since starting SensUal Joy studio has been spectacular.

Because I saw that I could achieve my desired outcomes despite my fears. SensUal Joy gave me my sense of identity and fulfilled my power needs.

With that I had the confidence to go on to have higher education and to experiment with all the things I wanted to experience in my life

even if it scares me.

And that included the big move to go into life coaching to help others. So what if I’m imperfect so long I’m constantly working on improving myself.

If you have been withholding from yourself your fullest potential and from living your quality life, it is time to change your course of action now.

Self Reflection Questions –

  1. When someone compliments you, what do you do? Do you accept it? Dismiss it? Deflect it? Block it? Or do you need to qualify it first in your head before you accept it?
  2. Is there something that you are afraid that you will be ‘exposed’ of someday?
  3. Without much thinking, what are the five things that you like about yourself?
  4. How long did you take to write it down?
  5. When asked to do something that you have never done before, what is your typical first reaction?
  6. What do you say do yourself usually when you are about to do something challenging or for the first time?

Take a deep breath and look at your answers to the questions.

Be brave.

What does it tell you?

  • Do you have a healthy dose of self confidence?
  • Are you less happy than you should be?
  • Who are you to yourself? A cheerleader? A nurturer? A critic?
  • What can you do to improve of how you think of yourself?

This is more of an awareness post rather than a blog on how to. I will be blogging more about how to improve our self confidence subsequent posts.

Meanwhile be creative and explore ways to help yourself to expand on your sense of self.

Free yourself to be you.

Please feel free to share with others if you have benefited from this post. 🙂

Remember, be kind to yourself first.

I am not good enough.

I am enough. 🙂

Here’s to your elevation!

SoulFul 18 – Park Geun-hye

Park Geun-hye

Following her high school graduation, Park Geun-hye enrolled at Sogang University in Seoul, South Korea, where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in engineering in 1974.

That same year, she suffered a tremendous tragedy: Her mother was shot and killed by North Korean assassin Mun Segwang, whose bullet was intended for the president. Citizens deeply mourned the death of Yuk Young-soo, who remains widely regarded as the country’s most popular and beloved first lady.

Amidst her personal grief, Park was instated as the nation’s acting first lady—a title requiring newfound responsibility for recent college graduate, who was then just 22 years old. But Park acclimated well to the political world: Early into her role as first lady, she gracefully and efficiently greeted dignitaries and conducted affairs of state, among a number of other responsibilities.

Five years after her mother’s murder, tragedy struck again: Park’s father, President Park Chung-hee, was assassinated at a dinner by his own intelligence chief, Kim Jae-kyu, on October 26, 1979.

She is the first woman to be elected as President in South Korea and is serving the 18th presidential term. She also is the first female head of state in the modern history of Northeastern Asia[3] and is the first South Korean president to have been born a South Korean citizen. Prior to her presidency, she was the chairwoman of the conservative Grand National Party (GNP) between 2004 and 2006 and between 2011 and 2012 (the GNP changed its name to the “Saenuri Party” in February 2012). Park was also a member of the Korean National Assembly and served four complete consecutive parliamentary terms as a constituency representative between 1998 and 2012; she started her fifth term as a proportional representative in June 2012. Her father was Park Chung-hee,President of South Korea from 1962 to 1979. She is generally considered to be one of the most influential politicians in South Korea.

This is an extraordinary woman who does her best to realize her fullest potential despite multiple personal tragedies one after another. She found the strength within to rise above the circumstances to do what she believes in. She made the choice to continue on despite having to do so without the presence and the support of both her parents.

It is only possible because she believed in herself. Self worth is precious and priceless.

  • When you look into the mirror, who do you see?
What does this person in the mirror stands for?
  • What does this person in the mirror dreams?
  • How do we go from dreaming to materializing?

Believe and achieve.

Be kind to yourself today.
